Fun Things To Do With Your Dog This Fall

The weather outside is getting crisp and cool and it's time to play!  Your dog has spent the dog days of summer either inside all the time, or outside only during early morning and late evening.  Now that the seasons are changing, there are many fall activities to enjoy with your furry friend.

Hiking

There are many areas that offer challenging and safe dog-friendly hiking trails.  A few locations across the country are Grand Canyon National Park and the Slide Rock State Park in Arizona; Runyon Canyon Park in Los Angeles, California; the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee; the Sequoyah State Park near Fort Gibson Lake in Wagoner County, Oklahoma; Walnut Creek Park in Austin, Texas; and Seven Falls in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where getting to the hiking trails presents unique hiking challenges!

Check with nearby national forests and state parks for more dog friendly hiking trail options.  Be prepared with supplies, first aid, and common sense, so you and your dog will have a great hiking adventure.

Leaf Pile Diving

Whether you are raking autumn leaves in your backyard, or visiting a park, piling up the leaves for your dog is a really fun game. Hide balls or chew-toys in the pile and let your dog dive in!  Leaves with be flying and your dog will have a blast!  Make sure there are only leaves in the pile--running into a sharp stick would not be fun. Look at these dogs racing around in the leaves!  Now, we ask you, do they look like they are having fun?

Matching Halloween Costumes

Halloween is one of the fall season holidays.  Going shopping for, or make your own, matching Halloween costumes for you and your furry friend can be a great fall activity.  After you find the perfect Halloween disguise, go trick-or-treating together.  Or, answer your door when other trick-or-treaters knock wearing your matching Halloween costumes. Please make sure your dog does not get into the candy and please follow these Halloween Safety Tips to keep your pet safe.

So, go outside with your dog!  Post a comment below to let us know what fall activities you are sharing with your dog.
